I have not yet attempted a more recent driver update (despite the Raptr prompts to do so) nor have I updated my Intel drivers (re-installed - yes, nay updated). So, it seems one can indeed get around the "vendor-only" drivers restriction on gaming laptops, but it might be one of those ' try, try and try again. But today, after a Windows update seemingly killed my GPU drivers (black screen lock-up > forced restart > drivers gone > GPU undetectable), and repeated failed attempts at re-installed the Dell-provided primordial drivers, I ended up (kind of by accident) installing the later (14.16) drivers over the top of the failed Dell (9.3.0.0) drivers (still present - I did not driver-sweep the failed install).

I tried the method back when I first posted here, but to no avail. Just thought I'd pop back to say that this method - - ended up working for me. Let me know if this works for you as well. I installed the AMD graphics update and restarted my laptop. I'm not sure but you can just download the latest update if you want. I downloaded the AMD Catalyst 15.1.1 Beta driver update to be specific. I then restarted my machine and headed to the AMD website where I downloaded the notebook/mobile drivers. zip and it installed without any problem. Kept giving me a message saying my system wasn't compatible. I then downloaded the latest graphics card drivers from the intel website.

I started by uninstalling my intel HD 4000 graphics from device manager and restarted my laptop. Its worth noting that the only way the AMD graphics update will work is if your intel HD graphics is up to date. If you find some card that looks interesting ask. Before proceeding create a restore point in case this doesn't work.ĭO NOT use the intel update utility or the Dell update software, just do everything manually. This would be the minimum ,the more you pay the better the card will be. This ones will allow you to run any game for an excellent price. You will not be ale to combine the integrated graphics on your motherboard with a discrete video card ,so they work together ,this is possible only on AMD APU-s with selected video cards and APU-s.Ī nice choice for a video card would be an ATI Radeon 5670 /6670, featuring 1G of GDDR5 or more.

My 890GPA-UD3 has the same IGP and i can tell you it s not capable to run even CS Sīest integrated graphics you will find is with AMD APU-s FM2 A8 and A10 ,they will run BF 3 or BF BC2 just fine. If you can t disable it just lower the clocks of the GPU and on-board video ram so they waste less power and generate less heat.Īnyway on new card installation you should just plug the display into the card and you will have image The BIOS has settings related to the on-board graphics. Some boards allow disabling directly ,some will disable it automatically when new card is detected.
